False Pretenses is a modern-day murder mystery that will take you on an old-fashioned, whodunit, hide and seek ride. Using the “sou-sou,” a wealth building model employed in some Haitian and Caribbean cultures, protagonist Makai, the son of a successful business owner, brings together seven millennial friends who trust him to teach them the basics, avoid pyramid schemes, and begin to gain financial freedom.

After one year of participating in the sou-sou, the friends retreat to a cabin in the Poconos where they learn the recipient of the first round of money. Each person has a high-stake reason for wanting to be the winner of the first round of savings, thus causing tensions to rise and tempers to flair. Instead of celebrating the first year’s gains, the friends find themselves embroiled in mistrust, a devastating murder, and they must determine who the murderer is.
